Entertainment journalist Jon Waterhouse gives listeners a blast of pop culture each week with “The Pop Culture King” show. Imagine a entertainment-tinged version of “This American Life” with an Atlanta-centric slant. “The Pop Culture King” airs Fridays at 8 p.m. on WMLB AM 1690 The Voice of the Arts (www.1690wmlb.com).
Waterhouse, a regular contributor to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, picks a topic and weaves in celebrity interviews, fun and funky stories and related music.
“My goal is to not just rattle on about a subject,” Waterhouse says, “but to use interviews, storytelling and a soundtrack to literally bring listeners into the show.”
With Waterhouse’s eclectic resume, which runs the gamut from stage actor to pro wrestling manager, expect a slew of interesting topics and guests tripping the pop fantastic.
“I’m incredibly excited to be a part of the 1690 family,” he says, “This is the station that inspired me to toss out my satellite radio! It’s truly the best spot on the local dial, and the perfect place of ‘The Pop Culture King.’ ”
